Biography
Zhongjie is a postdoctoral researcher at TU Darmstadt and joined NHR4CES in the Cross-Sectional Group Data Science & Machine Learning in 2025. His research focuses on deep probabilistic modeling, time series modeling, and AutoML.
He received his PhD in Computer Science, working on deep probabilistic models for time series and heterogeneous data. He holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Saarland University, Germany, and a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Control Science and Engineering from China.
Thematic Advice
With the rapidly increasing complexity of data being produced, traditional machine learning methods often struggle to model such data types effectively and efficiently. These challenges range from modeling the distribution of time series and facilitating various inference tasks, to modeling the joint distribution of heterogeneous tabular data.
Zhongjie can offer experience in employing suitable deep probabilistic models for such data, tackling specific tasks with hybrid deep model structures, and utilizing AutoML methods for/with deep probabilistic models.
Professional Competence
Zhongjie’s research focuses on Deep Probabilistic Modeling and AutoML. This involves developing advanced tractable probabilistic models, applying them to various data types, employing AutoML techniques for their hyperparameter optimization, as well as leveraging probabilistic models for efficient and interactive AutoML.
In the context of HPC, his goal is to automate machine learning tasks, e.g., for data preparation.
