Strengthening cooperation within the association and boosting innovation: With this goal, Matthias Müller, Head of NHR4CES and Director of IT Center RWTH Aachen University, has joined the Board of Directors of the NHR Alliance (Verein für Nationales Hochleistungsrechnen). Since July 2025, he serves as Vice Chairman, supporting the strategic development of HPC and AI in Germany.

About the NHR Association
Founded in August 2021, the NHR association coordinates the joint activities of the nine NHR centers across Germany. Its mission is to foster science and research to generate new technical and scientific knowledge in the field of high-performance computing (HPC). The association also promotes education and fostering the development of early-career researchers in the HPC field. The members of the Board of Directors are elected individually by the General Meeting for a term of two years.

He graduated 1996 with a Diploma in Physics and received a Ph.D. from the University of Stuttgart in 2001.
1999-2005: Researcher at the High Performance Computing Center (HLRS) in Stuttgart, Germany
2005-2012: Deputy director and CTO at the Center for Information Services and HPC Dresden (ZIH), Germany
Since 2013: Director of the IT Center at RWTH Aachen University and Chair of High-Performance Computing
Since 2021: Head of NHR4CES at RWTH Aachen University
His research interests include High Performance Computing, Research Data Management, Parallel Programming Paradigms, Correctness Checking, Performance Analysis, Energy Efficiency and Total Cost of Ownership of HPC. He is a member of ACM, GI, German Physical Society (DPG) and SPEC’s High Performance Group.
